The Filipino martial arts are deeply rooted in the culture, the traditions and the history of its people. The origins and roots reach back to the ancient times (antique), unfortunately, many aspects of its history and its evolution remain mystified through legend and myth.

ISMA-Escryma is a complete martial art and a way of self-defense which has developed from the Filipino traditions of free style combat and which knows three ranges, i.e. long, middle and short.

ISMA-Escryma is particularly known for its highly developed weapons techniques, with stick and/or knife. The style is fluent, explosive and without compromise, using the mass dynamics (laws of physics) to its advantage. To ensure maximum applicability, ISMA-Escryma is based on simplicity and on modern concepts.

ISMA-Escryma knows no age limit, making it possible for everyone to practice and learn the style.

ISMA-Escryma includes, among many others, the following weapons:

• single and double stick ;
• single and double knife ;
• sword/stick and knife ;
• palm stick ;
• bare hands, including the use of common items (e.g. keys, umbrella).
